I'm a bit tired of SGA fic at the moment, so I'm saving it instead of wasting it. Adding this to the stories I missed when I studied for my Abitur I get a whole lot of stuff to go through.

I read some Due South and a bit of Harry Potter. Oh, and House. Actually, I'm not sure if it works for me. Quality aside, I feel like I won't be able to get the same enjoyment that I get from watching the show from reading.

Anyway. The reason for this post: Save me! Save me, please! I'm suffering through a horrible McKay/Sheppard story and I can't stop. It features one of those crying, nay, sobbing, fainting, trembling McKay lookalikes whose self-confidence (the existence of which can be debated) hangs in tatters around them and can only be mended by some gentle Sheppard loving. And by loving I mean love, of course, love like he's never known before! And I still can't stop. Wah!

I seriously think I read that fic, like, two days ago. And then had to scrub myself clean with a re-read of Intersections. OH FANDOM, THOU HAS FORESAKEN US!

The sad thing is that we can't even say it's the same story. There are more! They are out there!

Oh, baby, it's so hard.

Now back to the riveting story! I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Ah, that story. *sympathetic shudder* I remember reading one of those that was also combined with a creepy Commanding!Sheppard, so that Rodney's tattered self-confidence could only be mended by some tied-up-humiliation-kink-dubious-consent Sheppard loving. So ... count yourself less scarred than you might be?

Eh. Counting myself less scarred now.

*laughs, which is probably the wrong reaction to a cry for help*

Also, *wants to know what story it is*

Wow. Least helpful comment EVER.

*flails* Seriously, I can't stop. I'll probably read all the chapters and then come back for the epilogue!

Look an amusing song for short term distraction from the fic.

ZOMG Step away from Teh BaDFiC!!

Kidding.

I've actually indulged in such activities myself, especially when needing some mindless entertainment. My inner schmoop!whore loves over the top Rodney!whumpage. Especially if Shep comes to the rescue, also in an overly dramatic fashion. Bonus points for flowery language and especially 'baby'.

Dude, share the link!

No link or I'll feel bad for bashing! Um. I'll send it to your gmail address, yes?

Hee, linked here by [livejournal.com profile] z_rayne because I do this all the time. I feel slightly put out that I have not read this particular fic, I don't think, because it sounds like a classic of the car crash fic genre.

It's like an addiction, isn't it? I know I shouldn't, but I just can't help myself.

Well, I can certainly see why you would be addicted. I just swapped links with [livejournal.com profile] aurora_84 and now I'm laughing myself into a hernia. :D

Oh dear God, I ran into one of those the other night and couldn't avert my eyes. Rodney was trembling and crying so much I thought he was cutting onions in the middle of an earthquake. No. I am not going there again. I had to go cleanse my eyeballs with some good fic, where people were in character - I couldn't go to sleep with that in my head. I was dreaming of John saying 'pet' and 'darling'. yearrgh...

Unhand the badfic now. Step away from it slowly...

Hee. A very apt image.

But seriously, how do you write this stuff? The authors can't all be teenagers, can they? Colour me baffled.

Make that with a blunt knife, otherwise he quite possibly would have sliced himself to pieces. No wait, unless of course it was super!woobie!Rodney, in which case he would be fine.

Sadly some of them just write like teenagers. Although that is unfair to some teenagers... Seriously, even the one time I tried to sit down and write fic (never to be repeated) wasn't as bad. I may be shite at narrative, plotting and character voice but at least I know when the characters are OOC.

Although that may be the key - a total lack of concern for accurate character representation and a drive for ... well whatever the hell romantic, hurt/comfort thing they want to right. Eeeehhsssh.

Ah, Jesus, don't look to me - I read Caldwell/Sheppard daddy kink fic last night. *covers eyes* Seriously though, I haven't been able to look at [livejournal.com profile] atlantiskink lately without wanting to cry at the OOCness.

Daddy kink? *shudders* Just give me a minute to recover. That's one of my bullet-proof squicks.

Sorry! It doesn't always squick me, but this one was pretty icky.

Or...hm. You know, now that I think about it, I can't recall a well written daddy kink story. Maybe that's where the balking stems from.

There was a Harry/Draco daddy kink story I read that wasn't too bad. I don't know though... I guess it does squick me but then sometimes it's hot at the same time and then I get all befuddled. Erk. I think it would be possible for it to be written in such a way that I wouldn't be squicked... actually the kink itself doesn't squick me so much as when the characters can't or don't separate it from the rest of their lives. I'm not good with the whole sub/dom "lifestyle" thing. Though I do like fanfic where the characters just have a really fucked-up relationship with lots of power struggles... It's sort of hard to explain.

From: [identity profile] dar-jeeling.livejournal.com
One of the first pairings I ever read was Mulder/Krycek, so yes, the power struggles, they be good. ;)

What bothers me the most is that in many fics with that kink, there's a lot of "domestic discipline" going on, which sends me running for the hills.
