What's the proper English term for this? You know, like, beaten eggs, cream, poach or steam, cut up? Savory egg custard?

Halp?

Totally unrelated to this: You know, now would be the perfect time to tell me a joke. Even if it's just mildly amusing. Sometimes when I'm feverish-ish, I become kind of...giddy. You wouldn't believe the stuff that makes me laugh myself sick when I'm in this mood.

Oh, and someone said nice things about me in [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's Valentine's thing. Thank youuuu.

Things learned from Singapore Airline's in flight entertainment:

The very handy phrase "Where are the restrooms?" in Mandarin. Plus the words for I don't understand, good morning, help, cat and restaurant. I scribbled down a few more, but these stayed in my mind for some reason. Yay!

I also stumbled over this very interesting bit in a magazine article about Sichuan cuisine: The Huajiao (Sichuan peppercorn) creates a peppery and tangy, mouth-numbing sensation called 'Ma', while chillies create the spicy zing called 'La'. Cool, non?

Vaguely related to this (in the sense of not at all related): I dreamt about travelling last night. )

And by abusing I mean amusing, of course. I just thumbed through one of those cooking and baking magazines and found this little gem. There's a list in there about which ingredients can be substitued by other stuff. Example:

Instead of maccaroni you can use...differently shaped pasta. But wait, there's more!
You're out of red and yellow bell peppers? No worries, it's totally fine to use green ones!

Thank you for that invaluable advice. Christ. People get paid for this?

Now with pictorial evidence.

Why I love the internet, reason No. 538: Food blogs! Three favourites:

Dessert comes first is a Filipino food blog (Manila, to be precise) that has many, many delicious looking pictures. You'll find entries about restaurants, home bakers, the occasional events and trips. The owner has a deep passion for food, especially for dessert (Duh), which really jumps off the page.

The Girl Who Ate Everything from NYC, I think? Rambling, cheery reports about restaurants, bistros and caf├ęs accompanied by many pictures (You can probably tell that this is a big plus in my book, can't you?). Apparently, the owner has a fondness for photographing the whole meal as well as the "innaarddsss!", e.g. the inside of a sandwich.

The layout and pictures of delicious days are very elegant and hm, soothing? Calm? Features more recipes than the other two. Oh, this would be Munich, btw.

Know any other good ones? Teeeell me because I live for the food porn!

Fannish list for tomorrow:
- finish watching Sherman's March (How much do I love JF?)
- get caught up on the fic I missed (Hah!)
- try to beat Photoshop into submission (Again, hah!)
- find some X-Men reviews (Yay for not having to avoid the dreaded spoilers anymore)

Pancakes!

Because Photoshop is frustrating me.

The flat ones: Not fancy, but very versatile. Flour, eggs, milk. You can wrap them around everything, salad, tuna, chicken, cheese, apples, raisins, take your pick.

The fluffy ones: Same as above, but with whipped egg whites and maybe some vanilla sugar. Little clouds of yumminess.

The cake-y ones: Their texture's like cake, sort of crumbly? And you can't eat more than one because of their tummy-filling goodness? If you know what I'm talking about and you know the recipe, please, I'm begging you, share it with me. I will love you forever.
